Studio Journal: January 2023

And just like that, January has been and gone! Whilst it's the dullest month of the year for many, it happened to be quite a colourful one in the studio.

Whether you're jumping for joy at the thought of February or you're just happy to have gotten through the dullest month of the year, here's a welcome pop of colour to mark the end of January!

For me, January is the perfect time to slow down, take a step back and reflect on the artwork i've created over the past year and work out its direction going forward. Somehow, flowers and plants always seem to draw me back in with their vibrant colours, delicate silhouettes and unique textures.

This month, I've enjoyed experimenting with new colour palettes and techniques… The early layers are very loose and playful to create tons of texture and depth before layering with experimental mark making and shapes. I'm working on getting more free and looser with each brushstroke.

After lots of experimentation, I'm starting to feel excited about where this series will take me! To develop these paintings further, I'll be creating an A3 floral study everyday in February! Using a range of media from charcoal and graphite to acrylics and oil pastels, there'll be lots of experimental pieces and I can't wait to get stuck in. That's right, there will be 28 original paintings up for grabs at the end of the month.

Keep an eye on socials and emails for updates on how you can be the proud owner of an original in the coming days!
