As Liverpool emerged from the shadows of the pandemic, I was honoured have the opportunity to hand-paint a huge abstract mural in Liverpool City Centre. I wanted the artwork to be a beacon of hope and creativity after such an isolating and difficult time for many.
The vibrant, contemporary abstract artwork sprawled across a 30ft+ long brick wall and aimed to inject colour, joy, and positivity into the fabric of the city as part of the Liverpool Without Walls initiative which celebrated culture and creativity.
Inspired by the spirit of Liverpool and its unwavering resilience, I wanted the mural to become a symbol of hope and unity for residents and visitors alike. With every brushstroke sparking imagination and uplifting spirits, breathing new life into the urban landscape.
The location chosen for the mural holds significance, strategically positioned in Liverpool City Centre where it can be enjoyed by all. As pedestrians weave through bustling streets and historic landmarks, they encounter a vibrant tapestry of colours and shapes that command attention and invite exploration. Passersby can pause for a moment of calm and get lost in a visual feast for the senses, a testament to the power of art to transcend boundaries and connect communities.
The process of creating the mural is as much a part of the experience as the finished artwork itself. For weeks, I immersed myself in the creative process, channeling her passion and energy into each brushstroke. Allowing my intuition to guide me as I brought my vision to life.
While I worked on the mural over several weeks, there was no shortage of support and encouragement from the incredible people of Liverpool. Passersby would stop to chat and express their appreciation for the project, sharing stories of how art had touched their lives during difficult times. Although I embarked on this journey alone, I felt a sense of camaraderie with the city, knowing that we were all united in our desire to create something beautiful together!
